We performed elsewhere for 16 years and have owned our own building 14 years.

We own our own venue, but will perform anywhere in the area we are invited.

We have performed at the HS, the Middle School and the "Community Center" (owned by the college).  This causes a lot of problems.  The "Community Center" is usually available as a rehearsal hall.  The biggest problem is that it is an old church, and the heating/air conditioning is LOUD.  The HS is usually so busy we can't get in.  The Middle School has very limited lighting, and almost no space backstage, plus no real dressing rooms.  We would like to own/build a building, but right now don't have enough money to do a musical, much less build.

There is something to be said for both situations. When you don't own you don't have to worry about insurance and maitenance and upkeep, but you can't build the way you might like and have no storage space. I'm now president of a CT that owns and  I spend a huge amount of time taking care of the building.
