Has anyone done 13?  If so, was it performed by middle school actors?  The book/lyrics have some questionable material....don't want the audience to freak out!!!!

I saw the show performed by kids ages 14-18.  It was fantastic.  I had heard the score and read portions of the script prior to seeing it and thought it might be a little questionable myself.  I didn't ever feel like the audience reacted negatively to anything that was said.  It's all kept very light though they cover some questionable material.

Though you may have trouble with a school board passing this script.  It does have some jokes at different religions and comments about getting drunk.

I did the Florida's premier and was wonderful. The audience loved and the music is amazing, really we didn't have any complain from the audience, the way is the script is very "light" and you need to keep the idea of 13 years old kids so the audience enjoy it. My cast was from 12 to 15 years old and the show is fresh with kids the right age. I saw a few productions with teenagers around 18 years old doing this show and that doesn't make sense and looks and sounds bad.
Take a look in this links from my show:

We just finished the Indiana premier yesterday. Our cast actually ranged in ages from 9-18.  The 9 year old was too young and was allowed in camp as we have always let 9 year olds in the musical camp but she really didn't fit in as she looked 7 but we made it work.

We actually did the show with 30 kids and it was amazing.  Our leads were almost all over 13 and Evan's music was transposed for a couple of songs to get it in his range but it actually worked very well as Brett was played by the oldest boy which gave the illusion of a held back dumb jock and Evan was played by a 15 year old but he is small for his age but his voice had changed to a Bari-Tenor.  He sang his full range and even had to go into his falsetto for a few notes.  We had a large ensemble which was great for the group scenes.

It was received very well by the audience and we sold out all 4 performances. People thought it was exceedingly funny and did not seem offended but we did put a PG warning on our advertisement.  Though it reads offensive it really doesn't come off that offensive if you stage it right.   We did drop the tampon machine/candy machine joke as we had no way to have one on the wall and the director thought it just pushed the envelope on offensive.  We are a small blackbox theater so our set was murals painted on the walls and some chairs and colored cubes but the kids, blocking and lighting created each scene.  Here is a link to a picture in our university paper.

Picture 1 and 3 are of the show - I don't know why it is in the middle of all the other pictures - it was the link sent by the director, I wasn't able to find it doing a search on just the newspaper site - it was in today's paper I guess.

I just saw it last week and it was done very well.  The kids ranged from 8-18.  There were 51 kids in the show.  I loved it and I thought the humour - although a bit questionable - was beleivable as coming from 13 year olds.  Audience reacted very well.
