bullet Topic: Dealing with actor cliques
    Posted: 3/29/10 at 4:47pm
I'm in a cast with several folks in N.C. area, and I have a rather long commute to rehearsals. I didn't know any of the other actors before this, and they're cliqued tight. My role is stressing me, and I could use some support. I've tried reaching out like a new kid but none of them is interested. I can only seem to relate to the only other non-clique actor in the cast. But it's like the two of us are being shut out. I've never been in a cast like this, and it sux. I hate actor cliques!

I do, too!  What's really ironic in my observations with "theatre cliques" is they see themselves as the group that is SAVING a show/season/theatre, when in fact their closed off lack of inclusion for outsiders is doing more to kill success than encourage it.  The audiences (and new talent pool) eventually get tired and disinterested (and consequently smaller) if the same people are ALWAYS directing and/or cast in the leading roles.

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

It happens in most aspects of ameatre not only with the luvvies, but in most situations with new members in general. Become a techie, although you probably won't be treated much differently.
Normally new aspiring techies in traing [TIT's] tend to get lumbered with the crap jobs anyway. Then those in thier tiny empires wonder why?
Then they start prattling on & windging they are pushing it up hilll with thier nose, because they are doing it on thier own.
There is no quick answer just bide you time & wait fpor the worm to turn in you favour.
Further remember how you feel now & ensure it does not happen to others, given time the barriers will fall down.
