Hands down my favorite role to play was Abigail in The Crucible. I'd still love to play Mary Warren and someday Elizabeth. It's my favorite play ever ever ever.

Too bad it's so historically inaccurate...  Speaking of playing Mary Warren, some of the worst scenery-chewing I've ever seen was a portrayal of her at the Witch Dungeon Museum up in Salem about 13 years ago.  They supposedly reenact the trials there - the day I went, it was Elizabeth Proctor's, Mary Warren was testifying...  I thought she'd be spitting splinters by the end.  I was laughing so hard...!

(And BTW - Tituba wasn't black.  She was a Carib Indian.)
There's a little bit of diva in all of us. Some just have a larger helping than others.

It was many moons ago, but I loved being the fiddler in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF.  First, I was in almost every scene and I didn't have one line to memorize.  Second (probably BECAUSE I had no lines), I actually sought out and got tutoring from a professional violinist on how to play (bowing and fingering) the music I was supposed to be playing.  During performances my bow was soaped, so nobody but me could hear what I was playing, but I played right along with the professional in the pit.  After each show people would come up to me and comment they had no idea I was such a wonderful violinist.  That was proof enough for me that the details do count (and that I got the details right).

By the way, you should know, I'm a "techie" at heart.  I prefer the dark side of the lights, making technical magic happen in a show.  Acting is so BORING and routine to me during the actual performances (no more "experimenting" once the show goes public), but that part of the fiddler was pure fun for every show.
Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

I feel the need to comment on misconceptions made about The Crucible.  I think you have somewhat missed the point of the play.  While it is indeed based on a historical event, it is important to remember that historical accuracy was not Arthur Millers intent.  Mister Miller was well aware of the inaccuracies.  Instead the playwright meant for his essay to speak to  bigger issues of the time.  Those issues related to McCarthyism, Hollywood blacklisting and even his own personal persecution caused by his marriage to Marilyn Monroe.
Maybe it is best to dismiss the errors in history and simply enjoy the greatness of the words.  Many experts consider it one of the greatest American plays ever written.
