Hi. I am going to try out for my first community theater production. I need to bring a resume and headshot. I don't have either. They said I could bring in any close up picture of myself, but what about a resume? I need some tips on what to write. I have only been in a few plays in high school, 10 years ago. I can sing and dance, but don't really have any experience in actual shows. Any tips would be appreciated. Also, I need to sing a ballad and an uptempo song, any suggestions?
Thanks so much, Robin |

A resume is an evolving document and pretty easy to develop. Some of the basics are to list contact information, experience and areas of study. You should put these things in a short cover letter. On a separate sheet, list your show involvement and parts played. I can't help you with selecting a number to sing.
To give you an example, Following is an excerpt from my resume for directing and lighting, sound and scenic design. This has worked for me for a number of years. If you don't have a lot of experience, don't be afraid to admit that fact. Just prepare for and give a dynamite audition. Don't be afraid of being an extra, either. It will help you build your experience and give you something to be proud to put in your future resume. Fiat Lux! Bil K Here is the resume sample. Unfortunately, it didn't format very well, but it should give you an idea>>> Thank you for allowing this opportunity to present my qualifications in the theatre arts and my involvement in theatrical production.
