Okay, let's say you start a community theatre...technically this is a small business right? So in that case...assuming this is your business....to the owners work day jobs? It doens't seem like they could effectively run a theatre company and still have a normal day job...how does this work?

In pretty much every community theater I have delt with the people who run the theater also have normal 40+ hour a week jobs. I've done it, and I have to say that it often doesn't leave time for much else in your life. Dan |

I work 40 hours a week as does everyone else who is involved in the running of our theater. What works for me is that my day job is flexible. I can, for the most part, deal with whichever needs me the most. I do a lot of long range planning. That means sometimes I work 60 hours one week and 20 the next, so I am free to do what needs to be done in the theater. We all have very busy lunch hours and e-mail is an essential part of getting things done. I have a wonderful board all of whom are willing to take part in the business side running the theater. Good luck. It is hectic life, and wouldn't have it any other way. L. |
