Hi, Just spotted an interesting new development in theatre marketing by Boston's Huntington Theatre- if it takes off, it is a great way to reach the peers of theatre fans. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really see to much exciting there. It appears to be just a glorified Bloging system. I definitly don't see it as being useful for audiance outreach. I think most people going to the web to find info on your theater want quick an easy access to the information, this doesn't provide it. Also it asks for far to much personal information (all of which I faked to check it out). Might be a fun thing for the cast of a show to use, especially if they are younger people who tend to be into this kind of thing.

| Well I kept an eye on this anyway- and I think the point is proving itself after just a few weeks. The "community" around the Huntington is growing steadily- and this is a completely new demographic for them. Everyone in that community is now a potential customer- and everyone in the communityour is passively plugging the Huntington to their peers through the icon it displays. Still early stages but if nothing else the Huntington will have a few hundred new people to ping with specific promotions/messages/newsletters: and all people who have opted in through word-of-mouth. Not bad at all. |
