Many communities have one or more children's theater groups, and Seattle is no exception. The Seattle Children's Theater offers classes for kids of all ages and abilities; check out their web site at http://www.sct.org, or call the drama school at (206) 443-0807.

The Village Theater also offers family-fiendly shows and classes for kids with their KIDSTAGE program. Check out their web site at http://www.villagetheatre.org/, or call the Everett Performing Arts Center at (425) 257-8600.

Youth Theatre Northwest offers "theater for children, by children." You can contact them at (206) 232-4145.

You can also check your local papers for kids' theater activities and groups, and watch for auditions at local community theaters, but be forewarned that there may not be that may roles out there for 10-year-olds in community theater. If there are, keep in mind that community theater rehearsals are at night, and if she gets a part, you'll be expected to attend with her to keep her company (and keep her entertained and/or in line when she gets bored, which WILL happen).

The nice thing about children's theater is that there will be other children who share her interest in theater, and she can get a great introduction, at a child's level, to the basics of the craft. Local community theater groups sometimes offer children's workshops -- keep your eye open in the local paper for them as well.
