Subject: suggestions for shows for upcoming season

I am a high school theatre and community theatre director. I have a large advanced high school company ... about 15 men and 10 women. My company is mixed ethnically . I am searching for production suggestions for the upcoming season ... shows that will make the audience laugh, cry ... move them! I, of course, want shows that the actors can get into performing. I am not interested in musicals. Can anyone suggest sites for me to check or possibly provide titles of shows that you have seen that work? Thanks for the help!

Here are some ideas - some I have done or seen and some I have only read but are on my "A" list.
Ordinary People - was a movie - a couple of 'to die for' roles for high school students.
To Gillian on her 37th Birthday - all roles are great - humor, tears, happy ending
West Side Story - if you can dance and sing
Cheaper by the Dozen
Tender Lies - nice characters you will care about
All I Really need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten - flexible cast - can do as a musical or just with music
To Kill a Mockingbird
David & Lisa - tear your heart out - 11M, 11W
There is always Shakespear - Mid Summer Nights Dream
Consider doing ten minute scenes from plays your students pick out and put them together as a night of scenes - works well - good broad spectrum of theater
There are several sites with short plays - 10 minute to one act. Here are two:

www.geocities.com/Broadway/Alley/8556/index2.html
Also try the Hansen Drama Shop at
www.dramashop.com/drama.html
This site has good descriptions of the plays.
Good luck!!

Try the show "Spirit" by Peg Kahret. (Pioneer Drama Service)
Works best in the round. Several great character roles (main
characters are in their 70's) I have directed this using Middle
School students in all roles and for a community group where the
main actors were in their late 60's. Both worked equally well.
NOTE: This is a show that plays much better than it reads.
