Subject: Looking for Winter Holiday Theater Project

Our community theater is interested in putting on a winter holiday
production (i.e. not restricted to religious Christmas aspects) that
includes readings and muisc about the winter holiday. We would like
something that requires preparation that is less difficult and
demanding than a full-fledged play or musical production.
Any suggestions, offerings, etc?

Here are a few:
Smoke on the Mountain - haven't seen it but it is supposed to be very good
The Homecoming - The play The Waltons TV series was based on - available in both musical and non musical versions
A Childs Christmas in Wales - also have not seen it but highly recommended.
There is also Miracle on 34th Street and and the Santaland Diaries - not really musicals but might meet your needs.
My favorite is She Loves Me - a full musical with a cast of about 20 but it may be worth the effort.
A dark horse is All I Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten - has music and a nice warm fuzzy feel to it - the music is less than memorable.

Our group did a most successful dinner theater at a Christmas tree farm. The subject was the history of the Christmas tree, and it was most rewarding and enlightening. We took each aspect of the evolution of the tree from a bit of greenery on the wall, the celebration of the winter solstice, the pilgrims, the community Christmas tree, etc. different lands and cultures.
And either presented a song or skit about it.
It is a little late this year, because it took a lot of researdh (mostly on the internet), but it was a huge success.
