Okay, I'm gonna really show my ignorance here. Even though we are just getting started, I thought a web-presence might go a long way to getting the word out, so I started searching some of the free web-hosting sites, i.e. ANGELFIRE. Alas, my computer knowledge is so minimal that even after several tries I can't seem to get even the simplest page to load.
So...... I was wondering if anyone here knew of someone who does this on a regular basis and would be willing to help me out? I realize that some web-hosts charge a monthly fee for doing this, but if anyone has ANGELFIRE experience, I sure would appreciate an e-mail from you, if you'd be willing to help. In return, we would link to your page and give you credit for creating our page.
Thanks

Bill

Try www.seattletheater.net they offer low cost hosting for theater sites. We have not used their web hosting services yet but they look very reasonably priced. Our e-mail is through them at no cost. They are very easy to deal with - maybe you don't want "Seattle" tied to your site but they have alternatives to that too.

Well thanks, Doug, but that was a bust. seattletheater.net cannot service anyone out of the state of Washington, and I am in Georgia. They recommended an alternative, (Mom & Pop ISP with a cheapo domain registry) but since I was planning to foot the bill myself , $20 bucks a month to maintain the site is a little out of my financial league.
Still looking for someone to help with the ANGELFIRE thing if anyone wants to take pity on a poor computer-illiterate thespian!

Thanks
Bill

I am currently webmastering websites for both the theater groups I am involved with, and we got our hosting in two different ways. In the first case, we bartered program ads for the ongoing cost of hosting. Since it doesn't truly "cost" the ISP 29.99 per month to host you, they were willing to waive the fee in trade for program ads, as well as mention of their service when we advertise our web address. In the second case, the ISP offered free service to any non-profit group (we are a community theater). In both cases, however, we did need to pay for registration of our domain name, a minimal charge.

Hope this helps

Mike

Are you a Macintosh user? If so, you can use Apple's iTools to establish a web site and host your pages. Both are free and pretty easy to use. For info, go to www.apple.com and click on the tab that says iTools.

Hi Bill

I've set up the website for my local group at no cost using 20m.com - see our site at hhtp://hhtc.20m.com It does mean carrying an ad banner on each page but that's a minor problem. See what you think.

Here's a link to a stack of free web site hosts:

Best Regards
