I'm def. putting the cart before the horse on this one, but am trying to "think positive" that our first production is going to be a great success and if it is - we will then be on to our Christmas Production. We have limited funds so it can't be too costly of a production. I was wondering if anyone has ever done a modern day Christmas Carol as I think it would be a bit difficult to come up with the old fashioned costumes and set for our second show.

I've never done an updated Christmas Carol, but there is a great play called The Best Christmas Pageant Ever that is a nice holiday piece. Can be very low budget as it's present day. Uses kids and adults. We've done it twice, and it's a real audience pleaser. Good luck!

Giving this one a bump up, because it is a question I would really like to see answered with more suggestions. Minimum of props, costuming and lighting/sound would have to be considered.

Thanks
Bill

If you want something really offbeat try SANTALAND DIARIES by David Sedaris (sp?). Single person, no sets or props and one act length. French packages it with another play that is not very good at all. One of our people wrote a script based on Lewis Carroll that the kids really loved - the adults enjoyed it too - not Christmas material but we did it then anyway.

I would agree. Christmas pageant is a great play with very few costumes and props needed and all of the kids know the show and it does really well with attendance.
