I am looking at directing the Female Version of the Odd Couple - I think the humor plays much better in todays world. Has anyone done anything interesting with it? I would particularly like to see what you did for a set. Anything that worked particularly well or didn't work?

Our Community Theatre has elected to do the Female Version as our first production. We have gotten some negative feedback as to whether this is a good play for a first production or not --- as some people feel that parts of it are politically incorrect and for our area (rural area) it is uncertain as to how some of the humor will be taken. Please let me know how you progress with your production - ours is to be in March.

We did it last June for our 1st prodution. It went over great. One neat stage prop, for A1S1, we used a "cow" couch(fulton). After Flo moved in, we changed it to a nice white one. We had a blast with this show. Hope you do too. Our next productiion is going to be Bernard Slade's Act of Imagination. Coming up in March.

Call me old fashioned, but I dislike the idea of re-doing well know pieces by changing genders. Doesn't help you with your decision, just my opinion.

It's written by Neil Simon -- for women.

Just read Slade's Tribute. I loved it. I am going to do it as soon as I finish Odd Couple - different theater different audience.

We did this version at our theater in (Mike, Chris: correct me if I'm wrong) 1993-94. I played Manolo. I had a blast. As far as political incorrectness: screw it. You can find this in just about any play out there right now (um...'Corpus Christi' anyone?).

Bottom line, it's a funny show, it's Neil Simon.

Go for it.

Thanks to all of you. It is cast and rehearsals begin Monday. Got a wonderful cast now all I have to do is keep people from bumping into the furniture and falling off the stage. Will update you when it is over.

The show was great. I had a very talented cast who brought so much to the play. Half the humor was outside the script - physical humor brought in by the cast. I have never had as much fun on a production. It was great from the first read through - no crisis -everyone knew it was going to be a great show. I can strongly recommend this play to others.

Doug

P.S. We never had any comments from anyone about the political correctness issue.
