We are looking at doing the Odd Couple next spring. I think the male version is outdated and the humor no longer plays. I think the female version is very funny but I am worried that the audience will look for the male version. Any recent experience? Did you do either one? How well was it received?

I personally think both versions are outdated, but those of us who are opposed to this play have been outvoted - so it is to be our first production. I feel that some of the humor involving the Spanish neighbors - is not only outdated, but in this day and age not politically correct either.

Even though we will be doing the Female Version- if I had to do one or the other --- I would do the male version. It seems funnier when read - though some of the jokes may need to be updated a bit.

FYI--My theatre is doing "The Odd Couple" (original version) next weekend. http://www.dlt-ok.org/oddframes.htm
I agree that both versions are fairly dated. This one has the feel of the mid- to late 60's, and the female version is set in the 80's. Choose according to whichever one you think you can cast.
I think the male version is a more believable premise and therefore funnier, but I have not seen the female version produced.
