I am hoping that someone might be able to help me solve a mystery. How do I wire a chandelier that has five seperate lamps so that each lamp is seperately dimmable? Any help would be greatly appricaited.

A fairly simple procedure if you have enough dimmer space. Simply locate
the point at which each socket's leads are tied together. Sometimes they
are wired from one lamp to the next. You will need two wires from each of
the lamp sockets. These wire sets should be individually conneced to a dimmer.
The ground will come off of the actual fixture at the point of original connection.
Now you can control each light independently. Without knowing the hardware details,
a more detailed description would be flawed. Blithe Spirit made this modification
necessary around here a while back. It is a grand effect that is super charged if
your controller has FX capability.

To begin, this work should only be attempted by a skilled, qualified and licensed electrician in compliance with all federal, state and local electrical codes.
How do you want to dim the instrument? Through the light desk or with single consumer dimmers?
Can you dismantle the instrument?
Do you have the skills it takes to perform this work safely?
Typically, you would place a single circuit or dimmer on each lamp between the line (power) and the load (lamp.) It would also be prudent, if not required to place a fuse in this circuit of the proper capacity. To start this modification, you need to dismantle the lighting instrument and bring each circuit out in a multi conductor cable of the proper gauge to handle the current you are drawing plus a safety margin in compliance with the NEC. Also, you need to safety ground each circuit with a third ground wire. You will then need to properly terminate all connections and insulate them safely so they can never, ever come in contact with each other, the ground or most importantly with living creatures. When you have done all this, you must repackage the instrument being sure there is enough free space inside so that the wires are not compressed and create too much heat or be pinched and cause a short.
Oh, and one more thing, this work should only be attempted by a skilled, qualified and licensed electrician in compliance with all federal, state and local electrical codes.
