i need to find a musical that would make for good family entertainment and in which i can cast alot of kids. can any of you give me any suggestions besides "joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat" ( which we did last year) or "the sound of music" (which was done last year in the neighboring county)

I just finished directing The Wizard of Oz and cast the Munchkins as kids ages 5-9. Other roles were played by adults. Sold out 15 performances. Works well.

Two additional musicals that come to mind with lots of kids in minor roles are ANNIE and THE MUSIC MAN. You can search some of the publisher web sites using the criteria of "lots of childrens roles."

The summer theater I ASMed for did Peter Pan this year. They had a lot of "Lost boys" who were pretty much 6th grade and under. The older kids they had as Indians. Teen boys were cast as pirates. This one may work for u!

I know that this is pretty late, but Oliver! is an excellent show with kids.

Hi...
what about Bugsy Malone? The cast is entirely made up of kids, great show that everyone loves.

We did The Wiz and used kids as the little monkeys, the mice squad (even the leader was 6 years old)and used teens as our backup singers(they looked better in leotards than we do!). It was a hit! Suggestion - get a special director and a back stage "Mom" just for kids. Adults are worrying about their performance and don't have time to supervise them.

The Wiz
Music Man
Finians Rainbow - need ethnic cast
Peter Pan - adults and kids

Ebenezer - a version of Xmas Carol.
Looks good, is good fun and would be appropriate for Xmas/Spring time.
Phoebe :)
