Would love to hear from any groups that have done this Sondheim musical. How did it go? Any tips or ideas that might help us? What would you do differently? Thanks for any input.

It's the most difficult show I've ever acted in. Please, please allow as much time as possible (much more than the average musical) for music rehearsals.

I was a part of this musical with our local community college (I played "The Baker's Wife") and we were all very accomplished musicians both onstage and in the orchestra. To quote the director, he told us that this show would "kick our butts" and it did, but we kicked back! We turned out an excellent performance, if I do say so myself. But it was so musically challenging that I feel I didn't personally have as much time to work on character development and interaction as I normally would have. You must have EXTREMELY DEDICATED musicians/actors in EVERY role. I say this because the learning curve on this show is very high. You need to know that the individuals will dedicate alot of their own personal time to learning their music/lines/character development, etc.

I am currenlty involved in a community theater group that had done the show about 8 years ago and they all speak in very pained tones about the show and its level of difficulty.

It's a great show and a great challenge. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Break A Leg!
