I am working on a production of "William Shakespeare: Land of the Dead" and we are renting a good number of metal prop swords. The swords are used throughout the show to kill zombies, and I would like to find out if there is a way to make the swords become blood-stained as the show progresses each night, without causing harm to the swords. Has anyone a solution to this? The stain needs to dry quickly, not dis-color costumes that it comes in contact with, and be removable so the sword is restored before the next performance. I don't know. It might be as simple as something like tempera paint, but perhaps it shouldn't be water soluble. I am not doing props for the show, but would like to make a suggestion to the person who is.
