Are there any people in your respective organizations that get paid for their services (ie. director, choreographer, theater manager, etc.)?  I'm looking at how different theaters are organized, and am curious about how compensation is handled.

Jim,
I run a small acting troupe in a tiny town in the NW corner of nowhere. I occasionally get "paid", and I do often spread "profit" with cast and crew. The actors love it, even if it just consists of $20 after a show.  I have a few people who have to drive quite a ways to rehearse, and I compensate them for fuel.
When I was part of a slightly larger perfoming arts center,(which is likely your situation)  we had a paid manager, and would pay directors at times. The manager had a tough job, dealing with a board, patrons, directors etc. and we went thru a few of them. We also tried running theatre without the paid manager, which cut costs, but also dropped revenue, and increased workload for the board. Our regular  S&L people were paid (although basicly incompetent) At times we paid for quality S&L people to come from a nearby town. I am no longer a part of that organization, although they do pay me ( as a director) to do shows.
Hope this is of some use to you.

In my community theater group, the director gets paid (if there's any profit) and the cast/crew get presents. In the summer pageant I ake part in, the Director gets paid and he shares with the Assistant Director. We had to pay a lighting director last year because our old one retired, but he was in charge of ALL sound and lights. The cast/crew gets t-shirts and pizza on Pizza night rehearsal.
