I know a lot of you have already done Dixie Swim Club.  I will be directing it very soon.  What I am interested in is hearing any interesting ideas you have or you used in the scene changes.  I don't want the audience just sitting in the dark as the girls change costumes and in some cases make-up.  I have some ideas but I'd love to hear yours.
How do we makes that scene change time not so "dead air" ?

One of the members of our theatre group is a stand-up/improv comic when she's not in a play.  We had her giving a comic time capsule synopsis monologue.  Highlights (and lowlights) of what went on in the intervening years - movies, music, news, celebrities, etc.  The audience really enjoyed it.

What an interesting idea.  You are fortunate to have a person with that sort of ability.
I was actually thinking about maybe doing a multi media presentation between scenes with video of the years current events with songs of the era as background music.

Hi, I hope that it's not to late for my post but I am new to the site. My CT did this show about a year ago and the director actually looked up stuff that happened in or around Nag Head during the different years that the show talks about. He then found some instrumental beach music and recorded himself as a DJ in the area talking about different things going on. While the different voice overs are playing the couple of people that were the stage crew danced around while moving props and slightly changed the scenery  as the cottage got older throughout the years. Each of the women also had an assigned person to help them change and age. Hope that this helps! It's a great show!

Very late to the thread but maybe this can help someone else out:

We used 5 younger females to represent the women back in college and they came out during scene changes and did little mimes of things - warm up, diving and swimming, receiving flowers/medals/taking picture with trophy.  It was all done as a memory... so the music was Requiem for a Dream - very slow, sullen, mechanical and robotic. The girls were completely in unison, stone-faced (except when picture with trophy taken, brief smile and back to neutral). Very stiff... almost like we/they were dead.

Very moving. Audience loved it.
