We started a new company featuring works of new and upcoming playwrights. Is there a place to get in contact with playwrights looking for a show?

If I was a resonable person, I would have chosen the life of a politician or a chemist, but I not reasonable so I'm a theatre major.

Forgive the long answer:

First off, yay to you!

Are you having a contest, or do you just want to produce new work? Either way there are scads of playwrights out there just waiting to send plays to you. (Some of them haunt this board!) There are a couple of places that lots of writers go to look for opportunities such as yours:

The first place I'd send you is the Loop:

You can send an email in to post an opportunity - I think there are over 1,000 playwright members there and they will leap at the chance to send stuff to you. (They'll leap especially quickly if you allow for email submissions)

Then you can look at facebook groups - search for playwriting in the groups there and you can find a number of them. Yahoo groups also has a number of playwright groups - I'm a member on Dramatists, and playsandplaywrights.

Make sure you spell out exactly what you're offering. Do you want to produce the plays? Are you asking for a reading fee? (Grrr) Where is your theatre located? What sorts of things have you done before? Etc... Etc...

Given the number of playwrights here (myself included), just posting what you're looking for and where to send it here will I'm sure get some response.
