My name is James Michael Shoberg and I am a playwright as well as the Co-Executive/Artistic Director of The Rage of the Stage Players, a dark, gothic, alternative theatre company in Pittsburgh, PA. The majority of our works are original, and we have twice produced a script of mine, simply called Alice's Adventures in "Wonderland."

It is a gritty, darkly comedic, urban, bawdy, disturbing ensemble adaptation of the literary classic, with no happy ending. It features twisted, real-world equivalents of the popular characters (ex.Alice Liddell, a Catholic school girl; The Queen of Hearts, a dominatrix; Nathan Hart, a sexually indiscriminate hustler; Professor Carter Pillar, a dementia patient; Mad Hattie, a mentally-ill homeless woman (and one-person tea party); Chester, a gory, grinning drug addict; and the "not-so" White Rabbit, a smarmy street punk. Just to name a few). The characters are skewed examples of some of the worst aspects of modern human behavior and issues...frightening, tragic, and uncomfortably funny. It features challenging, dynamic characters who are often unnerving and fun to realize for the performer.

It received great reviews (links provided below) and was wildly successful, with many sold-out shows.

In fact, it was nominated for two awards for Pittsburgh's Best in Theatre 2009 in the categories of Outstanding Featured Actor (Nathan Hart, a.k.a. The Knave of Hearts) andOutstanding Featured Actress (Mad Hattie, a.k.a. the Mad Hatter). It won in the Outstanding Featured Actress category.

I'm looking to have further productions of the script mounted out there, which can be as elaborate or simplified as a given company's budget permits. If anyone would be interested in perusing the script for possible production consideration, please feel free to contact me at rageofthestage(at)yahoo(dot)com with questions. I can provide past production pics to interested parties, as well. Thank you so much for your time and attention.
