Guys, a local high school is doing Cinderella and the fairy godmother will enter a room and wave her hand or wand towards an empty vase on a table. Flowers then appear in the vase.

This is the goal. Are there any magic effects out there that will accomplish this? If not, how close can I get? I'm a professional magician but don't use flowers in my shows. I'm familiar with quite a few methods, but not one that will accomplish what the high school is looking for. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Can't you springload silk flowers in the vase with a trigger underneath? Pull the trigger and the spring is released.  So the trigger could be pulled by fishingline from offstage by a stagehand watching the fairy godmother...or at a certain beat in the music if applicable.   If the table is big enough the stagehand could be under the table.

There is a prop gun similarly rigged to produce a flag or flowers or something similar.

If you are making it yourself the trick would be built around a tube that has the silk flower retracted into it, stem-sides-down. The spring is attached to a plunger in the tube and released by a catch in the tube that temporarily restrains the top of the plunger.  If you want an easy way to get the plunger and restraint mechanism, buy a nerf gun and modify it.

That's the idea...but we were looking to purchase this somewhere to save us the trouble. Any thoughts on where to purchase something like this?

They are basically clown props called "bang guns" and the easiest are the ones with a flag.  So you might need to replace the flag.  Here's one site: http://www.clownantics.com/sillystuff.shtml - http://www.clownantics.com/sillystuff.shtml   Here's another: http://www.mooncostumes.com/cat/89 - http://www.mooncostumes.com/cat/89   You can find others (and ebay offerings) by searching google for 'prop gun flag'  The flag versions cost about $3.

In the second site you might want to look at "Spring Flowers" Silk flowers intended to pop out of your hand or sleeve.  http://www.mooncostumes.com/item/8815 - http://www.mooncostumes.com/item/8815   The cost is from $11-23.
