Looking to catalog different methods of effecting a television onstage when no picture - or in this case no television - is used. Any input will be greatly appreciated as it has been quite a few years since I've attempted this.

Use a real Tv without the audio, dead hung in the fly's or off stage, even reflect/bounce the Tv screen light via mirrors.

We needed the tv effect comming through a window on one show.  We took an old black and white set on the back stage side of the window unit and messed with the vertical hold on the set until the screen rolled.  This projected a moving light/shadow illussion like someone inside was watching a show.

I have used a light with a blue gel with strips of gel or light diffusion in front of it, then I place a small fan to flutter the strips. I've used the same technique for simulating the light from a fire.
