Hello, I'm working on a project entitled "The Trouble With Being Earnest" which is based on my experiences as an actor and director being involved in several productions (over many years) of Oscar Wilde's play.
I am looking for stories of other actors, designers, crew and even audience members of amusing anecdotes, or horror stories (and everything in-between) related DIRECTLY to your involvement in that specific play. These could be about the rehearsal, the casting, the performances, onstage, backstage, scene shop, box office, whatever.
For example, in one CT production the actor who plays "Lane" the manservant only appears in Act One. He would make a habit to leave the theater after his scene (page 14), cross the street and spend the remainder of the evening (in full costume & makeup) at the local pub. The stage manager would call the bar (this in the days before rampant abundance of cell phones) and tell the bartender to send Lane back to the theater in time for curtain call. Of course, one night he was locked out of the stage entrance and had to make his curtain call entering through the audience.
I figure this play must've been done thousands of times in theaters across the country and I want to compile as many stories as I can. Anyone from High School, College, Community or Professional theater can contribute. Even the most mundane story might become useful.
