We just finished a successful run of this show.  It's by Anne Coulter Martens and based on a story by Lloyd Douglas.  Dramatic handles it.

It would work best in a rural area with an older, Christian audience.  It is set in the 1950s and recalls the poverty of the 30s  It's about 1 1/2 hours long.  It has lots of humor but is a tear-jerker at the end.

At intermission we overheard audience members remembering the trials of their lives.  Afterwards we found they were moved by the Christian Christmas message.

It has 3 men and 7 women as main characters and several walk-ons with bit parts in the last section.  We used a couple of kids there.

It does require a piano on stage (we built one that was a bit smaller than regulation and put a keyboard in it).  We actually had someone play on the keyboard the song--Joy to the World--called for in the script.  However, it could be faked with a CD.

I saw that a community theatre in urban Indiana was also doing Home for Christmas this Christmas season.  I wonder how it worked there.

This play is not for everyone, but those who are performing in churches and for older, rural audiences might find it to be a gem.
