Does anyone know if Nicholas Hytner's revival of CAROUSEL involved any revisions to the script or was it pure solid direction that made the production so moving.

I would love to know if anyone knows if there is a new script out there.

I saw it and didn't notice any changes - or at least none that were obvious. I've been involved in several productions of "Carousel" so I'm fairly familiar with the text. If they did any revisions, it was cutting here and there just to tighten it up.

The direction - and, of course, the performances - did indeed make for quite a passionate and moving production.

RE: Carousel revision

They DID re-interpolate the 24 measures of the Soliloquy back ("If I had a daughter, I'd stand her up in barrooms...) inserted just prior to "My little Girl..."

Those 24 measures were in the ORIGINAL production and the ORIGINAL cast LP (the THICK one in mono), but after that just disappeared after it got cut out of the movie version..
