Okay, here is the deal. We have recently come up with the ability to do live broadcast's of our plays on the Internet. I understand about rights and all that, and we would only broadcast shows which we have permission to do so.

But, do you think its a good idea? Would you tune in on the internet to watch a live broadcast of a play or musical?

Thanks!

I votes Yes, maybe once or twice for the novelty of it, but I would be much more apt to watch if it were recorded and I could watch when I wanted to.

I think live theatre should stay live theatre.

I understand the "live theater should stay live theater" thing, I'm just thinking that it would be way for us to reach out beyond our local area. I know of several opera companies which do this, including the IU Opera Theater, where I got the idea from.

I thought it would be neat to broadcast them live, and then catalog the entire show online so that it could be watched after the run.

for any idea of what I'm talking about, see this website:

Is the quality of your groups shows on par with Indiana University (what I saw on their site)?

If so, then why not?

If not, then it just seems self indulgent. If you want to archive shows for the memory of it, why not just make DVDs like everyone else (with permission of course).

We are doing our first season this fall, so its to early to tell. But so far, the budget for the entire season of 6 shows (just for the sets, props and costumes) is $63,000.00

So as far as "quality" of the sets, props and wardrobes go, they will probably be on par with the IU shows that you seen. Most of the crew and cast for our shows will come from IU (I have worked out an agreement with the dept. of theater and drama on giving extra credit to anyone who partifipcates in the productions), so we will pretty much have access to the same cast and crew as the shows that you saw.

But ultimately how well the shows turn out will depend on how on-par everyone is at the time.

I have an extremely slow dial-up connection, so I wouldn't have time to watch a play online.  I would listen to one on the radio, if anyone would broadcast it (having the necessary rights, of course).
