Our youth theatre org is doing a production of dracula- some of the effects are described in the script- some are not.

Any ideas for edible rats, wishbones?  Also in one of the scenes Mina(or lucy) is recieving a blood transfusion- drac rips the tubbing out of the arm of the donor to drink from it...any ideas?  Not sure how to make the blood flow through the tubbing before drac starts to sip it:)

Also- two vamps beheaded in coffin/tombs- any ideas for blood there?  The script suggests a mist, or spurt- the spurt would be easy- but messy- any ideas for a blood mist?

thanks!

Edible rats are easy.  Almost any halloween store will have gummy rats, just like gummy worms.

for the blood transfusion, use a clear tubing and coat the inside with red paint to look like blood in it. Then use a fake blood packet in dracs mouth and have him bite it after sucking the blood from the tube it can drip down his face etc...  real gorey.  By the way I love the show dracula and did it in 2002....no blood transfusion tube, but lots of lighting disappearing on stage infront of the audience and crazy sound effects.  Good luck and have fun.

I don't know how to make it mist, but crystal light cherry pomegranate looks like blood. It would mist better than the thick stage blood. Also, it's says there's no sugar so it wouldn't be sticky after it dried.

Edible rats; Hostess Twinkies. Compress at the "neck" to delineate head from body and add edible ears, eyes, whiskers & tail with bits of black licorice or other candy. Paint with brownish-grey food coloring. (I actually served these for a Halloween party for my kids several years ago. They were a big hit.) If you want to get extra fancy, you can use a medicine syringe & inject red food coloring into the creamy filling. Don't know how well that'll work -- maybe too gross.
