My favorite directing books:

General Principles of Stage Direction by Gilmor (published by Samuel French in the 1930's.  It's out of print, but you can probably find it on EBay or in a used bookstore near a college)

Directing for the Stage:  42 Exercises (the intro is quite boring, but the exercises are great!)

This suggestion was mentioned in the thread Books on Directing.

While I have done exercises as and for actors, I've never heard of exercises for a director.

Can anyone give an example without plagerism?

Have you taught or used any kind of directing "exercises"?
