Synopsis:

When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a pooka in the shape of a six-foot and a half inch tall rabbit, to guests at an afternoon tea party, his society-obsessed sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter Myrtle Mae and their family from future embarrassment.

When they arrive at the sanitarium, a comedy of errors ensues, causing the doctors to commit Veta instead of Elwood.  When the truth is finally revealed, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When he shows up back at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood's delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors, including renowned Dr. Chumley, his medical protégé Dr. Sanderson, and the head nurse Miss Kelly.

Winner of the 1945 Pulitzer Prize for drama, this whimsical comedy finds Elwood and Harvey as the catalysts for a family mending its wounds and romance blossoming in unexpected places.

Directed By: Leslie Bofill
