Hello all! Its been a bit since I have posted again.
Here's the new dilema... The old theatre group that was working here decided to disban and left our area without a CT. When they disbanded they also changed the website to a VERY negative and attacking website about the failure of theatre in our area. Many people have seen this and moved to a stand point of it being too much drama for them to deal with. The site is attacking any and all past or present groups in the area as well, and says that there is a list of names coming soon of people who can kiss their "Hairy White A&&". What can a group that has an owner and president that knows what they are doing do to change this air that has been created.
This has stemmed over into our auditions for The Glass Menagerie, and other aspects such as sponsors and getting people involved in our group. We are working out of the same venue here as the questioned group that started the drama with the site. Is there anything that we can do to go about changing this air?
Any and all suggestions are helpful to us, and hopefully we can get things going and move forward in a positive light.

Wow the old website is quite a slap in the face to the community. I certainly hope the surrounding communities are able to see your attempt to reconnect with them. Your new website looks great and appears to get your sincerity across. Perhaps an article in the local papers about the new air in the theatre might help your cause. Like Patrick has stated, you need to disconnect from this negative group and do the best that you can to rise above the air. But, if this group (or rather person) that is making these negative statements on the website are not careful with what they say or how they say it, you have legal rights to protect yourselves from defimation and slander. If you have an attorney on retainer I would contact them to look at the website and see if what they are saying violates any rules or regulations. It can be shut down.
It seems to be just basic jealousy for not being able to succeed as compared to the other groups. Hopefully, this matter will just go away quickly. Best of luck. ------------- The two greatest days in a theater persons life, the day you start a new show and the day the damn thing closes. |

I always treat these situations like an electrical circuit.
If you use working circuits, you must start with at least a negative source.
Then you can apply the all the positives to create as many working circuits you like.
Actually not a lot worth while, has been created from positives anyway. They nearly all come about because of a negative exists.
 So as suggested let the current flow past & add all the positives needed, for all the new working circuits, that will come out of it!

Sounds like the damage is done and you're looking for ways to undo it. Hmmm, have you tried getting local papers to do a write-up on your theater, making sure to highlight the fact that YOUR theater is in no way associated with the failed and obviously disgruntled regime of the "OLD" theater. I mean this slander or liable, whichever it is, does need to be addressed to see if you can put a stop to it, but it sounds like you need to also try to peel back the damage already done. Sounds like it's going to be tough, but try getting the word out anyway you can.

Rebrand... Change the name of the theatre... and get a new web site that pimps that name all over town in the most positive light you can... That way you'll no longer be burdened by past negative associations.... Rewrite your charter to be more positive and uplifting (While remaining effective) |
