Does anyone have a source for or at least a really good picture of the classroom maps from the King and I?  Thanks

Years ago I painted one set of maps, I still have it.  It's two maps painted on canvas and set up on a wood piece at the top--so set up like a flip chart.  The first map is a world map with the latin names.  The second map is of Siam, with the king posed on top of the landmass, a serpent in the sea and Thai writing in a few places.  (I don't remember if I researched correct Thai writing)

Each is about 4' x 4'

I can send you pictures.  You could get them printed to a size you want, or you can borrow my prop.

Marty, I just did KING AND I in November and I no longer need my two maps.

They are muslin backdrops, approx. 7 feet square, with webbing and tie lines along the top.  I flew them in on gold chains from two scenery battens.  You are welcome to them, (for a small donation to our Thespian Club).

Photos can be found on our production blog.  The photos are clickable if you need close ups or downloads:

E-mail me if you are interested.
Break a leg, Dana

I'm not a great photographer.  The second picture is at an angle.

Hello!  I will be directing The King and I for our Middle School next spring.  I am petrified, it's my first time doing this.  Therefore, I am starting my research early.  I am curious, what did you finally do about the maps?Star

We had a school closing in a neigboring district and they were getting rid of some older pull down world maps... We used this for the "New" map with a little white out on Thialand..  As for the "old" map we went to AAA and they had a Mecator map of the world which we cut away all the moder references, pasted it to some card stock and had an artist draw in a huge siam and burma (with appropriate king figures) in the south east asia area....   Hope this helps...
