I'm making a rose tree out of chicken wire and tissue paper. I know how to do everything but how to frame out the chicken wire underneath to make it look like an orb/globe.

Any ideas?

You can cut two pieces of light plywood--even Luan to the two identical circle shapes. Then in each cut a small slot that extends from the outside perimeter to the center of the circle. Use the two slots to fit the circles together at a right angle.

Take a scrap piece of two by four and placing it flush on the slot seam between the two circles, screw into place from both sides to serve as a cheap brace. Now you have a basic globe shape to attach the chicken wire to. If the tree shape is not round enough from all angles, you can stuff rug scraps, cardboard scraps, more chicken wire, or even paper to fill out the globe.

Start wrapping the chicken wire by stapling to one side of the plywood to anchor it and then wrapping it around. Once you've made a full circle then wire the chicken wire to itself.

I'd save myself a little time and make two plywood lolly-pop shapes with flared bases of the lolly stick--instead of the circles. The lolly-pop shapes are the round rose tree plus the tree trunk. The flared bases help you hold up the tree and anchor it.

Never done paper mache, but how about using a large children's bounce ball for your round shape. Wire the chicken wire to itself around the ball.

Just a thought.

I'm not thinking paper mache--I had a bad experience with it in our last show. I'm actually going to make paper flowers like you would for a parade float. Haven't done them in years, but it will give me with look I want.
