I'm REALLY stuck. One theater company that I do shows with is doing Annie, another company; ITW.

I'm absolutely DYING to be Miss Hannigan and all my friends tell me that I'd get it with no problem at all. I'm also DYING to be the Baker's Wife in ITW and the director and I have been doing shows together forEVER so it's basically handed to me...

Auditions for Into the Woods are a month earlier than for Annie...and they both perform at the same time...Which one should I choose? I really can't decide...

Hedge yiur betts - try out for both & see what you end up getting, on the basis of 'first come'.
Or you could miss out completly.

Just MY personal opinion, do Into The Woods. Annie is a great show, great fun, great characters.  And I cannot speak ill of it other than to say, it's fluff.  I love fluff once in a while, but I LOVE even more, the challenge of Sondheim, the complexity of the music and the concepts which he conjurs up.  Of course, I've never done a Sondheim show but I'm living for the day - and running out of time.  Actually that's not true - I DID Sweeney Todd - though just a chorus role (I was called in three weeks into their rehearsals to "round out" the singers in the chorus).  I never regretted the HARD work and intense rehearsals to "get" the music.  It was more rewarding to do that show (as it would be ITW) because of the challenge (for some it's not even a challenge but it is for me).  I just like the work and the focus it takes to learn his stuff.  ANNIE comes along all the time.  I'd say hold out on ANNIE and do ITW.  You'll likely have the chance to do ANNIE again someplace in short time as opposed to ever getting to do Sondheim as frequently.

Just my opinion.  If you can't audition for both and then make your choice it's always a tough call.  You decide against one or the other and maybe miss out on both.  It's a matter of which one do you love the most and want to do the most. Weigh the differences.  And good luck.  Tough decision I'm sure.

Besides the fact that I love "Into the Woods," and am not that fond of "Annie," there are not that many productions of "Into the Woods" and the opportunity to play those roles. Face it LOL, "Annie" is going to be remounted as many times as "Sound of Music" and "Oklahoma!"

Well, I would suggest you audition for ITW and if you don't get the Baker's Wife then you can choose to continue onto trying for Mrs. Hannigan in Annie.  You have no idea what the director has in mind for the role so do your best.  If you are cast then you have a conundrum if you should take it or try for Annie.  If you are not cast and wish not to stay on with the production then you'll have your chance with Annie.

so, i'm sure this decision has already been made, but i'm really curious what you ended up doing. i'm playing baker's wife right now, and i'm enjoying every minute of it and in a selfish sort of way, i hope you picked itw.

if the end is right, it justifies the beans.
