Is there a device that will allow you to ring a cell-phone on stage without using the network?  The phone is on a table and must ring for an incoming call and also indicate the arrival of a text message.

We have used a cordless phone for this. Most of the newer ones are close to the size of a cell phone. Plug in the base off stage, and use a ringer box or the call button on the base to ring it.

I'd rather act, but they found out I can do tech & sets!!

You might just try the real deal... If your afraid of stray calls from one of your personal cells, you might consider one of those pre paid, disposable jobs??

just add in the sound effect throgh your playback, unless you're in a small venue and cant deal with something like that. in that case go with a cordless or set the alarm so it rings at a certain time. kind of difficult to deal with.

this will seem strange but, I have a fridge magnet that makes cell phone noises. I use it to bug my kids. sounds pretty real and is loud. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond

For accurate timing of the sound, safest would be to record it and then have it played. Or because you can set your settings for the phone sound and your message sound you could use two phones to do this (rather than scrolling through the functions). As for receiving calls you don't want, just divert all calls to the mail box for both phones.
