I can't claim to be a computer genius....as a matter of fact, I can barely claim to be computer literate, so please forgive if this question is a bit naive:

Is there any software out there that can be used to create floor plans, set designs, etc? I do quite a bit of designing, and wondered if there were a more efficient way of going about it using the computer. I would love to create scale drawings of our stage on the computer, place set elements on that drawing, move them around, have templates for furniture pieces, etc., etc.

OK, all you computer wizzes.....tell me what you know. But keep it in layman's terms, please!

I think sketchup is easy to learn and easy to use and allows you to measure what you have created and do things on scale. Less complicated than programs like CAD etc.

Depending on how serious you are, it might be worthwhile to learn to use a CAD program. Right now I'm using MiniCad (which is now sold as Vectorworks, but the program is identical). The possibilities are endless, and the benefits of having a good piece of drafting software definitely make it worthwhile to learn.
