It's time to invest in some basic lights.....we have gotten away with rental crap and "floodlights on a stick" but now we are planning The Tempest this summer and yeah we need thunder and lightning......any advice on what to buy?

G’day Joan
Being a Sparky by trade I have used Carbon Ark striking fixtures for lightning bounced off a mirror to great effect.
Here is a site with a simpler home made lightning effect, produced by a theatre techie & it explains how to build it cheaply & what precautions should be taken.
However no matter what, find yourself a friendly [or Feindly] qualified sparky knocking about locally, to help out with this project;-

With the thunder besides producing an old low tech hand cranked Thunder Machine, you could use an audio sound track recording for an easier controlled sound effect.
