We've finally moved everything to a new server, and as you can see, we decided to do a redesign while we were at it. We've chosen a company that offers more capabilities on the back end for us and with a reputation for reliability -- this should allow for greater speed for database-driven applications, like this board and the scripts and link directories. And I know everybody was tired of coming in to check the board and finding it was down yet again!

The forum is also an updated version with several new features; we really need your feedback on how it's working for you, and especially about any bugs you run into.

Please let us know about any problems you have, either on the board or the rest of the site (especially "Page Not Found" errors).  Not everything is complete yet, but we're working as hard as we can on getting everything back up and running better than before!

Looks great but the dates seem to be international format instead of mm/dd/YY.    I'm sure our friends in the UK and Australia are appreciative of that.

Congratulations, you're the first one to help us out with a bug report for the new set-up!

Looks like in the transfer, all the dates in the individual user preferences defaulted to European style. To change it, go to the "Settings" button at the top of the screen. On the next page, click "Edit Profile" at the top of the list to access your user details and preferences. On the next screen, scroll all the way down to "Forum Preferences." The last selection in the list is "Date Format," where you can select your preference for date display from a drop-down box.
.
I'm posting this fix as a separate topic in Announcements and will make it a sticky topic across the board. Thanks for pointing this out!

Love the new changes, Bravo!

One issue I seem to be having however.  Some of the longer posts are being cut off at the bottom and I can't find a way to scroll within them to read the whole thing.

Am I missing some obvious trick?

Top, could you point out a specific post? I'm not seeing it from my end, but I may not be in the right place. Also, just in case, can you tell me what screen resolution you're using? That might help us sort this out. Thanks.

Actually, the first post from Chris Polo on this thread is chopped off after "Please let us know about any problems you have, either on the board or the rest of the site ..."

I can't read what follows.

As far as screen resolution goes, how would I find out about this information?  I'm not very computer savvy.  In fact, when I make a typing error, I still have the urge to dab "white-out" on my screen.

I see the entire first post just fine... I have a different problem and I'm not sure if it is the boards or mine.  I signed on here at work and it looks great! Last night, however, I signed on at home and got the old format and a bunch of locked forums... Is there a trick? Any computer geniuses know what I might need to do???

Again, Chris & Mike, great job.. And thanks again for pjroviding us this forum...

Marty your home computer may have cached the old site.   Try refreshing your browser and if that doesn't work, hold down the control button while refreshing.

Topper,

Sorry to take so long to get back... it's been one of those days.

If you are running a Windows machine, just right click on the desktop and select properties. The choose the tab at the top that says "Settings".  Screen resolution is on the left hand side. Also, it would help to know what browser you are using; Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, etc.

I'm using Internet Explorer on Windows ME.

Perhaps I wasn't clear when I said the longer posts are being cut off.  Actually, the bottoms of the posts are being covered by the author's "Signature".  I can see the tops of the letters behind this, but I cannot scroll within the post to read further.

Interesting. We'll have to do some research. Hopefully we'll come up with something. One thing you can try is to make sure that your IE is up-to-date with all of its patches.

No coke, Petsi!

Run Windows Update from the Tools menu (I think)... then choose any updates for Internet Explorer. Install them. After all that (aren't computers fun?), select Help from the menu bar, About Internet Explorer, and put the version number into a post or send it to my email address ( mailto:mikepolo@communitytheater.org - mikepolo@communitytheater.org ).

Red, we're trying... One of these days, we're going to add some new features, perhaps offering web hosting for community theaters, along with email addresses, list servers, etc. Think anyone would be interested?

Again, the bottom of your reply is obscured by your signature.  I can only see half a post.  Dependng on the size of the font being used, I'm only seeing the first 8-10 lines written.

Here's the bottom of Mike's post -- let us know if you can't read everything up to his e-mail address -- that's the important part.

Hi Chris

Great site full of information, just a couple of errors to report!

From the Scripts page http://www.communitytheater.org/scripts/index.asp
using the "find Genre" button produces a "page Not Found" error message.

From the "Script Database" http://www.communitytheater.org/scripts/titles.asp selecting any of the details produces a "Server Not Found error message. This is because the links are formatted www.books.communitytheater.org/ etc. rather than books.communitytheater.org/ (you need to remove the www from the script)

Hope this helps

That helped but it is sad that there are no descriptions of the plays. Before the crash there was a wonderful place where we could review plays we had done and give information that wouldn't be available anywhere else. Places like French and Dramatiscs only give a tiny view of the play. What we had here (before) was info from folks who had done the play. I miss that.

Thanks for the tip, Andy -- I still have coding work to do on the site, and now that we're done with London Suite, finishing that up is the next big serving on my plate. Barb, we've got all the user-submitted play info in our database, so that will be coming back. I've also got to finish up the links pages so that they actually show links and allow visitors to add more.

I love doing this stuff, it's just getting the chance to sit down and do it that's hard!

I've been getting:

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occured while sending an email.
Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_mySQL_send_mail_footer
File Name:- functions_send_mail.asp

Error details:-
jmail.SMTPMail

when I post a reply.  Then I refresh the page, am given option to retry, and then get a message that double posting is not allowed, my message was already posted.  The upside is my messages are posted, but I don't know why this is happening.  It started yesterday and continues today.  I never had any trouble before that.  Any ideas?

I got that once. Since I was able to post again right after that, I eventually assumed that I had impatiently clicked post reply twice.
