Looking for either a comedy with a bit of a story or a drama with a bit of comedy.  Along the lines of "You Can't Take it With You" would be ideal (all the nutty side characters!).  Cast requirements would be probably at least 9 or 10 characters (more is better), more females than males.  Any ideas?

Something as old as "You ?an't Take It With You?"

"Stage Door" might fit the bill - quite a few characters - and mostly women.

A more contemporary play might be "Hot l Baltimore" by Lanford Wilson -
very funny - and said. Lots of wacky characters.

If its a Drama/Comedy you want, I am directing a fairly new play.  It has 11 cast members, almost evenly split gender wise. This play is making its way around Ohio where the playwrite is from.  The publishing house is Dramtics, and they have a sizeable excerpt on thier site... The show is called "House for Sale" and deals with an elderly gentleman living alone, whose daughter wants him to give up his home and move in with her. Got a lot of funny bits in it, not to mention one scene that most of the players are in that can go a little over the top. Of course it really is more of a dramatic story when you concider the baseline story.  The happy ending is that this man who dosen't want to leave his home and memories of his dead wife, yet dosent want to continue to worry his daughter dies at home at the closing curtian.... I'm sure it reads better than my post, so take a look at the excerpt... Its by Ron Hill. at Dramatics..

If you're looking for a laugh-out-loud comedy, I know the most fabulous show that's brand new.  I saw "Dearly Beloved" in Greensboro, NC, at The Broach, but I know it had its world premiere at Asheville Community Theatre.  It's by the same playwright who wrote "Dearly Departed" which is also hilarious.  This one, "Dearly Beloved," i.e., has a large cast, maybe 12 people.  I'm not sure.  Go to the playwright's website  http://www.JezebellesInk.com - www.JezebellesInk.com  for all the info.  I did.  It's great!  I'm emailing the playwright to put an announcement on the board here.  Break a leg! RachelB

We will be doing The Curious Savage (11 characters) this next season and it fits the description of what you are looking for. It has been done lots so it is a well known play.

We're just starting rehearsals for Marvin's Room by Scott McPherson.  It's a comedy/drama with 9 or 10 characters:  the leads are 2 women and 1 male, then one female and one male supporting roles, and two female and 2 or 3 male minor characters.  The leads needs to be strong actors and the supporting characters are the funny ones.
