Hey guys

My name is Sarit,I'm 19 years old and i live in Israel. Happy that i've found this place,I searched all over the net and did not find any forum of acting.

Since that I was little,i liked watching in the "acting" like in movies and series,I was looking to see real and convincing acting,I really enjoy when i see it.

So,i hope i came to the right place,at this point in my life i don't have the possibility to go and learn acting which is really pity for me,I wanted to go and learn in the high-school,but there weren't people for the class who wanted to learn acting so they canceled it,but here I would love to ask some questions, and hope you won't get bored by me LOL

So thanks for reading, sorry for the english

Sarit :)

First of all -- Shalom!

Second -- relax, there are plenty of movie stars
making quite a comfortable living who know nothing
about acting either!

Well said, Topper!

Second:  To Sarit.  Welcome!  I can guarantee that you will have all your questions answered by some of the greatest people you have NEVER met, but who will become your friends.  In fact, in most cases, you will find that there will be many different answers to the same question.  That is not to say that any are wrong, but they are a product of the writer's experiences.  You simply take the comments and advice and apply them to your own situation and you will find what works best for you.

Welcome to this crazy world of theatre.

True Statements one and all.

Welcome, and good luck.  Feel free to ask any questions, and you will get responses.

The most important thing to remember is:  You already are an Actor, and know everything you need to know about being an actor.  The answer to your question is this:  You are an actor because you want to be an actor, because you want to learn about acting, and because you desire it to be true.  You may not be good, but you can only be as good as your drive to excel.

I formally began working as an actor when I was 19 years old.  Before that I just played pretend.  Even with formal training, I spent the first years of my training teaching myself.  I read books on acting, I studied psychology, I studied movement and body language.  I learned to create a realistic character, and to this day, I continue to work on developing technique.

If you can teach yourself, then I recommed the works of Stanislavsky or Michael Chekov.  They are available in most bookstores, and you may even be able to get copies in Hebrew.  Then read the works, and practice what you learn.  All the world is a stage, and you can always practice being different characters in real life.  Just let your friends and family know what you are doing so that they don't think you are crazy.

One thing to keep in mind as you begin your exploration of acting is that there are many different approaches to acting.  Some of us actors (myself included) get a little defensive about it sometimes, and you may get told that something is the "right" way.  If you can get a copy, there is a wonderful book called Actors on Acting (edited by Toby Cole and Helen Chinoy) that collects and organizes thoughts on acting through different centuries and countries, and is an invaluable resource in trying to understand acting.

Certainly continue to ask questions on this board, and good luck.

WELCOME!!!

I think that the Bard himself said it best when he said "all the world's a stage....", so yes, you are already an actor.  We all are.  It just seems to me that you need an outlet for your talents (albiet, hidden ones at the moment).  I wish you luck in trying to show everyone else what you can do.  Please keep us posted!

Sarit, your English is fine, certainly much better than my Hebrew!

Good advice above.

The best thing you can do is act.  Act anywhere that will allow you.  Act in any role they will cast you in.

Learn from your directors.  Learn from your fellow actors.  Keep a journal.  Write down what works, and what doesn't, for you and for others.

And ask questions here.  Again, listen to everybody and use what works for you.

As the wisest actor I ever worked with told me during my first efforts with Shakespeare:

"It ain't scripture, it's just poetry."

And don't forget the most important part:  Have fun with it.

Mazel tov!

Sarit,

I would love to hear about the theatre community is Israel. Do you have a lot of community theatre companies? When I was a little girl we had a very close family friend from Israel and he told me the most wonderful stories about life there. I would love to hear about your experince in theatre and how the poltics effect the artist community.

Welcome! we have many spirited talks here and would love for you to chime in!
