Hey folks,

New Discussion Board Member here. Okay, so in need of some clarfication help. I'm in the works of starting a theatre company, we've just sent in our Articles of Incorporation. This company has been running un-incorporated for a few years now, and we've done a production maybe every two years. Mainly whenever we found the time. But we're out of College now and we've finally sat down to get things going. We are temprorarly operating out of our High Schools Little Theatre, but trying to establish ourselves independetnly from the high school.

Anyways, I recently got a hold of someone who just spewed a bunch of information that I had not heard of. Now what we've done is had all of our performers and our student interns sign a waiver of  insurance and liability, but this gentlemen has stated we need performance insurance/Audience Insurance. Now I've never heard about this in any of the theatre's I've worked for nor can I find much information about this type of insurance only.

Anyone know anything about this? Is there a way around this? (Certain parties of my board have chosen to fully go forward with a production without letting us settle into being fully incorporated and having the logistics all figured out. So now we're stuck in a big pile of......anyways.)

Thanks for your time.

You need Public liability Insurance!
If you check out
 http://www.aact.org/index.htm
They have a package deal for member groups!
But get your member/volunteers coverage as well - as soon as you can!
Theatre, by it?s nature, is one of the most potentialy dangerous industry?s in the world!
Get a cover note, levy your membership or what ever!
Protect all your people as much as you can!
E have $20 million Public Liability  & volunteer coverage, which cost us about $2000 [AUD] we like to sleep nights!

We get our insurance from Ponta, Castle, and Ingram. They have a fabuloue coverage, that also includeds Board members and you will need that. Ours costs 1735.00 having gone up just this year 235.00. But it covers EVERYTHING!!!!!! And our players with personal insurance are covered for any expenses past their own insurance, and those who have no insurance are covered completely.
