What is your opinion on Christina Applegate's performance in Sweet Charity. All I heard was that it was mediocre. and I was disappointed when I saw the performance at the Tony's.

I haven't seen it ... it's not on my list LOL.

I thought she did a good job on the Tony's - but felt that she was
miserably miscast. It's really a role for a dancer who can sing -
and she's really an actress who sings and dances. Also - I
found it hard to believe that she couldn't get a guy to love her - I
mean, LOL, she's drop dead gorgeous, and sweet as all get
out.

However - we just saw "Light in the Piazza" - WOW! What
a knock-out show - elegant and chic and beautifully sung...it
makes you forget that until "Les Miserables" and "Rent," there
were people who actually sang and didn't just shout in a chest
voice! DOn't get me wrong - LOL - I liked "Rent" lots - but it
really did change the sound of Broadway singers!

How's that for changing the subject??? LOL Sorry!

Ms. Applegate actually suffered a fractured ankle
during the show's previews in Minneapolis. That is
why she's wearing those mid-high boots for her
costume.

Much to her credit, she decided "the show must go
on" and performed through her pain. Many of her
dance numbers had to be scaled down.   That is
also why her performance might have been
classified as "mediocre" -- she was not operating up
to full potential.

PS: I agree with tristanrobin -- she IS drop-dead
gorgeous. Plus I think she is one of the most
underrated female comedians we have working
today.

The Light in the Piazza's music is so gorgeous, it makes me want to cry. Adam Guettel is a genius. I also like another musical by him, Floyd Collins.
