Any thoughts on Wonderful Town? It was a show submitted for our 2006-07 season, and I'm not at all familiar with it. Anyone seen it, done it, been in it? How was it received by your audience? I'm ordering a perusal copy, and I have read the synopsis, but I always think it's helpful to just check with all of you. Your insight is invaluable! Thanks!!

I love "Wonderful Town" - I've not worked on a production - but
have seen several amateur productions - and the terrific
Broadway production with Brooke Shields a couple of years
ago.
What I have noticed as an observer is that the singing isn't that
difficult - but the orchestration seems (to me) to be a monster -
LOL - Bernstein, you know LOL. Also, it's very energetic and
lively - which also translates (in a musical) as a LOT of dancing.
There is definitely one number that requires a male dancing
chorus, so you will need a few guys who can dance. There are
quite a few sets - but nothing that is impossible to achieve.
If you choose to do it, good luck! It's a good show that should
get more productions IMO.
Oh - I have two different recordings of it - the first with Rosalind
Russell - and the newest Broadway revival. Both are quite
good, fairly complete - and you could get a good idea of the
music from a listen-through.

It's a very nice show. If you buy the cd, I would recommend the one with Audra Mcdonald in the cast.
