Can anyone who may be familiar with the script or the part of Jennifer Owen in Babes in Arms help me? Does the girl who plays jennifer owen AKA baby rose have a little love story going on with Val? Does anything happen such as a kiss, and if so, where? Thanks!

I'm guessing the kiss will probably be on the lips.

yes - they kiss. Valentine is one of the apprentices at the
summer theatre, where the play takes place - however, he's
really - ta da! - a marvelous composer, who has composed an
entire musical. Jennifer is a has-been Hollywood star, who has
been hired to star in a Tennessee Williams-esque play at the
summer theatre. She and Val fall in love, and she conspires
with 'the gang' to get the straight play canceled so that Val's
musical can open in its place.

It's a really sweet play - corny and sentimental and completely
unbelievable - with a WONDERFUL score. Lots of roles for
young kids - in fact, I believe there are only four 'adult' roles in
the piece.

Just a note: it is NOTHING like th efilm version with Judy
Garland and Mickey Rooney - they completely changed the
script into something else for the film.

Jennifer gets to sing "Where or When" - a gorgeous ballad.

Have fun!

tristan, does jennifer sing Johnny one-note? Because in the original, it seems that she did, but in the 1989 version and the 1999 Encores! NY version, it seems that she didn't, and that someone else sings it.

wow, juliet - it's been quite a number of years for me - however,
I believe "Johnny One-Note" is sung by Bunny, the only
adult character that is part of the kids' gang. She also sings
"The Lady is a Tramp" and "Way Out West on West End
Avenue." Bunny (in my opinion!) is the best part - she's funny
and sympathetic and gets three TERRIFIC songs.

Anyway, I"m pretty sure "You're Nearer" is the other Jennifer
song, in addition to "Where or When"

I guess there must be two different versions, then. Thanks for all your help!

Just a funny note on this - when I played Jennifer my Val was 15 and I was 22 (ewww) and the guy playing the other guy I had to kiss (can't remember the character name) was gay - and my husband was STILL jealous.
