I would like to ask if there is anyone out there who lives in a humid climate and uses sound systems such as schools, churches etc.

I would like to ask if it is common practise to hire outside sound companies to do sound for your production or whether you have your own sound system.

Does the humidity have an effect? Is it safer to hire outside sound rather than use the internal school system?

From experience, for some reason, our school sound system is not very stable. At the most crucial moments it fails us and just fades. I suspect it is because of the humidity. But since I am not a technical person, I am not sure.

Could anyone offer any advice, insight or opinion on this? Thanks!

Hi Eagle,

While south-east Queensland (Australia) is not Hong Kong, humidity is typically around the 80% mark.  My limited experience is that the humidity has little, if any, effect on the equipment and only a marginal effect on the quality of sound -- a slight improvement in the distance the highs travel; but, it is mainly academic.

At the risk of stating the obvious; it may be that the school needs to have their equipment checked, both at the individual equipment item level and the complete system level.  You say that at "... the most crucial moments it fails us and just fades..."  Perhaps if fades at other times, it is just that it is not noticed.

Cheers from Oz.
