I would like to start a theater company in Williamsburg,
Brooklyn with two fellow actors. We would like to set it up as a
Non-profit from the beginning. I've been doing a lot of reading
on the subject, but am still unclear on the best way to proceed.
They offer online services for starting a non-profit for $100-
$400. However, I read an article on this site that said you could
do it yourself for much less. I'm overwhelmed and would really
appreciate some guidance from someone experienced in this
arena. Thanks in advance!

I would suggest you join the American Association of Community Theatre

Besides their info on how to start a Theatre Company

they will assist & advise on the logistics of it & they do have a 'not for profit' Insurance Package, covering Public Liability & member/volunteer insurance?s.

It?s worth your while to gain this protection prior to firing it up. It may cost - but it?s far cheaper in the long run.
