I AM THE DIRECTOR OF THE UPCOMING PRODUCTION OF GYPSY.  THE STRIP SCENE CHANGES IN ACT 2 ARE TROUBLING. THERE ARE SWIFT CHANGES IN LIGHTING, COSTUMES, CURTAINS AND VENUE.  ANY IDEAS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hi There Patricia,

I am directing a production of Gypsy in November and am worried about the same spot.  I am just going to use the same curtains, maybe change the lighting to depict a different locale or shoot a different color on the curtain just to give a little different look and invest in a serious amount of velcro and industral size snaps for the costumes, It might be easier to rent these costumes, since they will be designed for the fast changes.  We are contempalting this idea as well.

For the locations it can be simply done by the announcers, or have the signs, and they dont have to be elaborate they can be on an easel as well.

Just as long as there is a grand finale at the end of the strip with the show girls, etc.  I am thinking of doing Minsky's salute to St Valentine, and have Gypsy come down a series of platforms that are adorned with cupids and hearts, etc.

I hope this helps.

Where are you doing the production at?  When do you open?  I may be too late for this information, but just saw your question, I am new to the site.

Michael
