I've asked to direct something for a community group (in England) mainly made up of over fourty women. We have a couple of teenagers and twenty year olds and a couple of men about early thirties. We need preferably a comedy and I;m struggling. As we are a small group we also need minimal set - i was wondering if anyone out there has aver been in a similar position and have they any sugeestions - any would be very gratefully appreciated

Thanks

How about The Women by Claire Booth Luce?

I am not sure how simple they are...but there is a series of plays with Farndale Ave. in the title...all farce type...about a ladies club staging plays. I have never worked on one, but I have seen a few productions...very funny and done with all women (and all ages of women).

I believe Sam French has the scripts.

Good Luck,

Countbio

"The Cemetary Club"(1), Female version of "The Odd Couple"(2), "Talking With"(0)," Twelve Angry Women"(0?), "Win, Lose or Draw" (0)(three one-acts - Little Miss Fresno and Final Determination are wonderful). "Three Viewings"(1), "The Vagina Monologues"(0), "Waiting In The Wings"(3?), "Radio Gals"(1), "Crimes of the Heart"(2), "Enchanted April"(3), "Jake's Women"(1).

I put the number of men (as I remember) in ().

I'll probably think of some more.

Are you looking for a standard (contemporary classic) or something fairly new?  I have a comedy with the majority of roles for women. It has been produced Off-Broadway (well, the Garment District in Manhattan but it was one block from 42nd Street) and in Queensland, Australia.  It has one simple set.  I can send it to you as an email attachment (Mcafee virus protected, Word.doc or Rich.txt).  It was to be available online as of January but it still hasn't shown up on the ProPlay Publishing site.  No royalty fees for educational institutions and amateur theatre groups with educational outreach programs and senior discounts.

I'm not sure that many publishers can offer a play with 40 female parts, but we do have a very funny two-act comedy called 'Stand And Deliver' which has a cast of 4m and 10f ...

Synopsis
In a small Maternity Ward, Sister Mitchell and Nurse Walker have to contend with four pregnant women and their other half's (or mother in one case) each with different reasons for being pregnant and different views on births, deaths and marriages.

It is earthy, Northern British humour and contains strong language, but is great fun to produce and perform. I suppose you could have more patients/visitors/nurses in the hospital to include more of your actors! More details are on our website at ...

... including prices for rehearsal material and royalties, and where you can securely order all items online.
