 I am in a bind. Could someone please give me some suggestion's... I am getting ready to audition for " Guys and Dolls" in April and was wondering if anyone had a good musical piece to audition with. I was thinking of. " anything goes" from " Flower drum song" whatta think?

Hi Becka,

After just auditioning over 70 people for a musical in which I cast 43, here is what I would suggest. Pick any song from a musical that suits your voice, shows off your range, that you are comfortable with and do it well. Don't dance unless asked to, don't shout, don't over act. It also goes a long way if you have learned the music before you get to auditions. I am impressed with performers who give their music to the accompanist and then just sing the song. It speaks to how serious they are about the part and says volumes about their professionalism. If I have two voices that are equal, the equation goes to who was the most prepared. If the director or music director asks you to sing something different then what you have prepared, do it. They might see something in you that you don't, or they may want to compare your voice with someone else's on the same song.
